One of my favorite songs on Billy Bremner’s (Rockpile) debut solo album, *Bash!* (1984), was this Elvis Costello track; Costello recorded a home demo of it, but as far as I know, it was never recorded with The Attractions—though perhaps a studio demo exists. The home demo is included as a bonus track on later reissues of the 1983 album *Punch the Clock*.
Billy Bremner’s debut album *Bash!* was produced by The Records’ drummer Will Birch (who later became a respected author of music biographies and penned numerous sets of liner notes for various CD releases).
The version of “Shatterproof” differs drastically from Costello’s original.
This live video isn’t of the highest quality—featuring a couple of skips—so this edition of *Jocke’s Journal* starts off with a bit of a “lo-fi” feel.
